Every single article critical of Mastodon: "Woah, it isn't just one monolithic website? Someone should fix that!"

Dear 2023, all I want from you is for everyone to stop talking about Twitter and Elon Musk.

Everyone, remember how we got to 2021 and all agreed that we'd ignore Donald Trump? Let's do that in 2023 with Musk.

@Supership79 It's a damn good movie too. It doesn't discuss gender identity like we do today, but it's excellent representation for its time!

It recently struck me that 27 years ago there was a movie with Patrick Swayze, Wesley Snipes, and John Leguizamo playing drag queens, and if it came out today, someone would firebomb the theaters it was in. I'm not putting a sensitive warning on this picture because it's not fucking sensitive. its a movie that came out in 1995. things have moved backwards in a terrifying way.

In 1941, Nazis asked the city of Amsterdam to make this map of Jews in the city. Each dot equalled 10 Jews.

In 2022, TX AG @KenPaxtonTX sought data from driver's licenses on #transgender Texans.

But don't worry. History never repeats itself. #LGBTQ+

I saw this post from @BlackAzizAnansi that Mastodon remains an overwhelmingly white space and I can't refute that, but I'm angry that it is this way. My experience in tech is that there's no shortage of black talent or black voices, there's a shortage of black opportunity and space due to racism. I see that reflected here. I feel like if we want a #blackmastodon then we can't be passive about this, we have to be intentionally inclusive, intentionally anti-racist. It's not enough to just support.

Pleroma TERFs & Nazis

This is why I have a general distrust of Pleroma users. I don't care that it is "more lightweight" than Mastodon. I don't care that it has extra features and multiple frontends.

Its Nazis all the way down. Even the official Pleroma website recommends Nazi-friendly instances, and their devs are openly friendly with out-and-proud Nazis.

Vs.

on Pleroma...

@Davidlaw @monkeyninja @BlackAzizAnansi For starters, when people bring it up, white people start asking a bunch of dismissive questions like "Blame who?" or "What barriers?", instead of believing that there's a systemic problem that people of color might face.

Just in case you ever taught "feee speach is a good mission, maybe #musk is not that bad"

( #twitter #mastodon #elon #elonmusk #twittermigration )

@annaleen I have heard of this incident before, but I can't find any articles about it. If you have more information to share, I would like to read more about this.

Twitter folks: Unless you are actually a displaced person, please stop referring to yourselves as "refugees".

You didn't live on Twitter. You were not forced from your home.

You've just switched your preferred microblogging platform. Realistically, you shouldn't have any plans to go back to Twitter, so it doesn't even work as a metaphor.

Call yourself a "migrant". That gets the point across without being insensitive.

@robertomurta I use this trick regularly when I'm dealing with a VPS that's basically scratch space. Servers that don't do any damage when they break beyond annoying me personally.

It's definitely not in-production advice.

@TheGentYYC “The only way we ever have a Republican president is the Electoral College”

Admitting that their party is democratically unelectable...

friendly reminder that the halo announcer says "trans rights"

this makes me soooooooo happy omg

@emmatonkin I run a personal Asterisk server, and until I had the good sense to set up fail2ban, I had a cronjob that would wipe out most of the oldest rotated log files, since it would be literally gigabytes of failed logins.

The job was modeled on what I'd have to do every time the drive got full and my phones stopped working.

Unprofessional Protip:

Keep a 1GB file full of random numbers on your server's disk so that when you neglect it and let the drive get full, you have 1GB you can delete right away to get things less broken.

@compuguy If people need both, they can use both apps, or use an app like Twidere that connects to both Mastodon and Twitter accounts into one feed.

At least then they can't boost Twitter content to the timelines of other Mastodon users, and can actually reply to Twitter accounts instead of to an ActivityPub bot.
