@Alex it‘s incredible to me that a) he actually buys that elon does any meaningful technical or tech pm work 2) he forgets that teslas shitass 5 years behind the state of the art attempt at self driving that they’re just kind of beta testing on the road regularly kills people

Venture Capitalist Paul Graham, who has had a broken certificate on his personal website for years now, wants to lecture people about how to manage a tech company.

Let's take a look. Galactica can generate wikipedia articles, supposedly.

So let's see what they look like. Here's one for Brandolini's law, the principle that bullshit takes another of magnitude less effort create than to clean up.

Left: Galactica's attempt at creating a wikipedia entry

Right: The actual wikipedia entry

The Onion truly is America's finest news source.

Ben Garrison's Kobe tribute vs. Hans Zweibel's Gallagher tribute.

My son is transgender, loud and proud about it.

He's absolutely one of my top two favorite people; not just because he's my child, but because he's funny, intelligent, warm, helpful, understanding, creative, and so many other positive things. That guy makes me proud to be his dad on the regular.

Losing the person he is because he didn't feel he could be open with me or with his mom would've gutted us, no chance of recovery.

Fight to be the sort of person a friend or a child can turn to when they want, need to share who they are. #TransgenderAwarenessWeek

Mastodon is the most "web3" platform that I know of and there is ::looksaround:: no sign of blockchain or crypto anywhere.

Mastodon v4 upgrade meme (updated)

Okay, third time's the charm! [Fixed]

CWs aren't some sort of Badge of Shame among the Mastodon instances. They're a part of the local culture. We use them to be good neighbors, to make godawful puns, to give each other little surprises.

That's in large part because Mastodon was built up by a pile of tired, disabled, traumatized, queer folk, and we built a space where we could engage with the world around us more easily. And then we used the same tools to be goofballs. Because that is how a human do.

Meta, defederation as direct action

This week, MastodonART defederating c.im pushed them to expand their mod team, clarify hate speech policies, & unsuspend the account of a Black user who had taken issue with CWs for lived experience.

Now toot.community has suspended a transphobic journalist after pressure from several instances.

I wish those instances had made better proactive choices but I’m impressed to see how powerful this type of direct action from instances (& individuals) can be here.

what's The Light Side Of The Fediverse?

broadly speaking, instances that have active moderation against bigotry

it's the opposite of The Dark Side Of The Fediverse

where nazis and TERF's and cryptobros and such are banished to

The Dark Side is the instances none of the good ones federate with

For context, "Mr. Bond" is currently serving a 10 year prison sentence for "Glorification of Nazism". His music was played during a livestreamed mass shooting at a synagogue.

Fascism friendly platforms

I've been reporting this Neo-Nazi podcast for the past 4 months, and Spotify keeps telling me to "be patient" while they "look into this", and now they're complaining that I keep reaching back out since I "already opened a ticket".

They're dead to me.

Forget your outrage about the Joe Rogan Podcast and type "1488", "SS Waffen", or "White Pride" into Spotify search.

They're not even pretending to moderate their platform. Not talking about the JPEGMafia song, that one slaps. Just take a scroll through all the fashy podcasts and playlists.

Terminating my account in favor of Deezer, which appears to proactively find and delete hateful and violent content from their service.

How I'm beginning to feel about Twitter and Meta:

“You know, when I was a girl, the idea that the British Empire could ever end was absolutely inconceivable. And it just disappeared, like all the other empires.” — Doris Lessing

Mastodon is now at 1 million users … same as Twitter was in 2008 when I joined (as @james_slezak@twitter.com )

Just a reminder that "self-hosted" doesn't *necessarily* have to mean literally hosting on a computer in your house. It just means you're in control over it.

Took a fun photo of the Bellevue skyline reflecting sunset from the Leschi neighborhood in Seattle.
